improvemyself.info - The Law of Attraction - Fact or Myth |
Is there such a thing as the law of attraction? Most people you come across will have strong views about this phenomenon because it extremely hard to corroborate it. Several books, Web pages have been written about it and even movies made either attesting or refuting its existence.
The likelihood of accepting whether this phenomenon exists will depend largely on your experience of it. We know that radio waves exist because of the existence of radio stations broadcasting their output and radio receivers playing the output from the radio stations. We cannot see, feel, smell or touch radio waves but we have a means of verifying its existence.
People write or speak about their experiences of how they attracted wealth, power or whatever desire they wanted into their lives. They will speak passionately about the veracity of the phenomenon they experienced. But we have virtually no means of confirming their experiences independently. There are similarities here with prayer; those of you who come from a monotheistic background will know exactly what I mean. When you pray, you have to believe that the provider (God) is capable of giving you what you want and you have no doubt that you are going to get it irrespective of the number of apparent obstacles in your way. You believe that with divine intervention that it will and must happen. The moment you have any doubts in your mind, your prayer becomes ineffective. You then give up, feeling angry and frustrated.
In my experience there are five basic steps you need to go through in order to get what you want. All these steps are important and if you do not pay proper attention to each of them you are likely to give up before you succeed in your quest.
1. State your need:
You have to be clear in your mind what you want. Most people think they know what they want out of life but if you try to get them to be specific about what they really want they will not be able to tell you. Let's say you want money. It is not sufficient to say I want a lot of money. You should be specific about the amount and time frame you hope to acquire these riches.
2. Believe you are going to get it:
In my analogy with prayer this is fundamental because once doubts start to creep in; your energy levels start to wane. You have to believe 100% that this desire or need is going to be fulfilled. Even though an immediate solution of how this is going happen may not be apparent. Think about most successful people you know, they always have great visions of the future and their believe system is unshakeable.
3. Visualisation:
This is a continuation of the second principle. You have to create images of what life will be like after you have fulfilled your goal. These images have to be very vivid and can made more powerful by including other sensory modalities such as smell or touch.
4. Action:
This is fundamental, nothing will happen without it. Most people fail because they do not take any action. They talk up a good fight but do not take the necessary steps to reach their goal. They rebuff opportunity after opportunity and expect things to literally fall into their laps. All the previous steps will not avail you in the least if you do not take action. How many successful Olympians win gold medals simply by believing or visualising? No one can fulfil their goals this way except of course in movies. This is why for most people the law of attraction will forever remain a myth.
5 Perseverance and patience:
You have to continue reevaluating the first 4 steps until you reach your goal. Do not forget to express a feeling of gratitude for your successes no matter how great or small.
